Butler Benton joined the UCLA football program as general manager of recruiting and personnel in March 2024 as part of head coach DeShaun Fosterโs inaugural staff.
Benton arrived in Westwood with more than 10 years of experience at the Division I level, including the past eight working directly in personnel and recruiting at FBS schools Notre Dame, Arkansas, Georgia Southern and Michigan State.
Most recently, Benton spent the 2023 season as the assistant athletic director for player personnel at Notre Dame. With the Fighting Irish, he was responsible for roster management and evaluation, as well as management of the recruiting and scouting departments. Notre Dame posted a 10-3 record in 2023 and won the 90th annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.
Benton spent the previous two seasons as general manager at Arkansas, helping the Razorbacks to a combined 16-10 record and two bowl wins. On the recruiting front, Benton helped Arkansas import back-to-back top-30 classes, including the No. 22 class for the 2023 season, according to 247Sports.com.
Prior to Arkansas, he worked in the player personnel departments of Georgia Southern (2020) and Michigan State (2017-2020). At both stops, Benton was heavily involved in the evaluation and recruiting processes.
The Detroit native started his career as a graduate assistant in the athletics department at Kent State (2011-13). He then moved on to Notre Dame as an assistant director of player development in 2013 and 2014 before landing at the University of New Orleans as the director of student-athlete enrichment from 2014-16.
As a player, Benton earned four letters at Cincinnati as a running back for head coaches Brian Kelly and Mark Dantonio. He totaled 2,084 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns during his collegiate career with the Bearcats. He earned his bachelorโs degree in business administration in finance from Cincinnati in 2008 before adding a masterโs in sport and recreation management from Kent State in 2013.
