Bruins Beat Tritons for Sixth Straight Victory

Defending NCAA champion UCLA recorded its seventh sweep of the season by defeating MPSF foe UC San Diego Saturday in LaJolla.
The Bruins (9-2, 7-1) won 15-13, 15-9, 15-4 in 90 minutes before 381 fans by hitting .405, limiting the Tritons (2-9, 0-9) to a .191 hitting percentage and dominating the net by outblocking them 12-6.
The victory was UCLAs 29th straight over UCSD, one of four conference teams that have never beaten the Bruins.
Individually, junior Ed Ratledge spiked a UCLA career best 20 kills and ripped six aces. Juniors Seth Champi and Matt Grace each added nine kills and combined for 11 block assists.
The Tritons got a team-high 16 kills from sophomore Zack Hite.
UCLA will continue its six-match road trip this week, traveling to CS Northridge (Feb. 17) and UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 19). They will return home Wed., Feb. 24 to face UC Irvine.
