UCLA Rallies for Win over Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. -- The UCLA men's volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit on Thursday night to defeat host Pepperdine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) played in front of 2,875 fans at Firestone Fieldhouse.
After dropping the first two games by scores of 15-13 and 17-16, the Bruins stormed back to capture the last three games by scores of 15-11, 15-9 and 15-13. UCLA never trailed in the rally-score fifth game.
Ranked No. 4 nationally by Volleyball Magazine and No. 5 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), UCLA won its seventh consecutive match and improved to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in MPSF play. Pepperdine, ranked No. 2 by the AVCA and No. 3 by Volleyball Magazine, lost its third straight match and slipped to 18-4 overall and 13-5 in conference action.
Junior middle blocker Adam Naeve led the UCLA attack with 29 kills, while senior middle blocker Danny Farmer recorded 23 kills and a .424 hitting percentage.
The Bruins posted a .311 team hitting mark and limited Pepperdine to a .250 team attack percentage. UCLA benefitted from 10 service aces. Pepperdine was paced by senior outside hitter George Roumain who led all players with 41 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Scott Wong added 24 kills and a game-high total of 26 digs.
It marked the second time this season that the Bruins and Waves staged a five-game battle. Pepperdine won the earlier meeting on January 27 at Pauley Pavilion in Westwood.
UCLA travels to Loyola Marymount on Friday (April 9) night for a MPSF match while Pepperdine plays host to UC Irvine in a league date on Saturday (April 10) night. First serve in both matches is scheduled for 7 p.m.
