
Women's Basketball Loses To No. 5 Duke

Alana Beard scored 15 points and No. 5 Duke used a 21-2 first-half run to breeze to an 80-52 victory over UCLA in the Women's Sports Foundation tournament on Friday night.Georgia Schweitzer added 14 points, and Missy West 12 for the Blue Devils in the season-opener for both teams. Michelle Greco led the Bruins with 22 points, including 15 in the first half.
UCLA hit four of its first six shots and trailed just 13-12 after Greco made a 3-pointer. But Schweitzer scored seven points to lead the Blue Devils' run that put them up 34-14.
Beard scored nine straight points in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second half as Duke put the game away. UCLA missed its first 10 shots in the second half, several of them layups.
No. 7 LSU played New Mexico in the second game.
