Men's Volleyball Team Drops Thriller to Pepperdine

Second-ranked UCLA suffered its second straight league loss Thursday night, dropping a 3-2 thriller at No. 3 Pepperdine.
The Waves won 17-16, 17-16, 13-15, 8-15, 15-10 in three hours before 2,075 at Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Bruins (9-2, 3-2) hit -.100 in the deciding fifth game, recording only three kills in 20 attempts. The Waves (6-1, 4-1) had eight kills in 18 swings Game 5.
The Bruins outblocked the Waves 21-17 and had fewer service errors 34-39, but Pepperdine won the defensive battle with 86 digs to the Bruins 62.
Junior Mark Williams led the Bruins with 22 kills and 11 digs, followed by senior Seth Burnham's 19 kills and seven block assists. Senior Evan Thatcher added 18 kills and four total blocks and freshman Scott Morrow led the Bruins with nine total blocks, including four solos, to go along with his 12 kills.
Pepperdine senior All-America Andre Breuer led all players with 36 kills. Keith Barnett, Scott Wong and Brad Keenan spiked 23, 22, and 21 kills, respectively. Keenan led the Waves at the net with nine total blocks.
UCLA hosts UC San Diego Friday night at 7 p.m. in the John Wooden Center.
