HONOLULU, HI--Fourth ranked UCLA extended its season best winning streak to 10 matches with a 3-1 non-conference victory over fifth ranked Hawaii Saturday in Honolulu, HI.
The Bruins (21-3) won 15-8, 2-15, 15-7, 15-3 in one hour and 56 minutes before 6,729 fans in the Stan Sheriff Center. Seniors Evan Thatcher and Seth Burnham led the Bruins in kills. Thatcher pounded 21 and Burnham, who came off the bench, added 14 plus a match high nine blocks. The Bruins won the battle at the net, 16.5-9.5.
UCLA senior All-America setter Brandon Taliaferro recorded six kills (.417), a match-high five aces, 11 digs and four blocks. His 52 set assists enabled the Bruins to hit at a 33.1% clip. Hawaii (10-8) was led by freshman Costas Theocharidis, who slammed 21 kills and added three aces and seven digs. Junior Clay Stanly added 11 kills and 13 digs.
UCLA's victory completed a two-match sweep of the Rainbows. The Bruins recorded a 3-1 league victory Friday night.
