Bruins in Seventh Place After First Day of Pac-10 Championships

No. 2 UCLA Women's Swimming and Diving Upset by No. 4 Stanford

Los Angeles, CA- The second-ranked women's swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the season in dual meet action, as No. 4 Stanford defeated UCLA 168-132 this afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Complex on the Stanford campus.

The Bruins were led by freshman Sara Platzer, who earned event titles in the 50 Free (23.54) and the 100 Free (51.33). In diving, UCLA sophomore Heidi Prosser won the three-meter event with a score of 209.45.

Stanford's Misty Hyman posted wins in the 200 free (1:48.46), 200 fly (1:57.20) and 100 fly (53.55) to lead the Cardinal. Teammate Shelly Ripple took first in the 200 back (2:01.19) and 200 IM (2:03.14) while Jessica Foschi won both the 100 free (10:04.29) and 500 free (4:48.83).

UCLA wraps up its sojourn of the Bay Area tomorrow in a dual meet contest against California at noon.
