Bruins Women's Swimming And Diving Falls To Cal

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Bay Area was not a kind place for the UCLA swimming and diving team this weekend, as the second-ranked Bruins suffered its second consecutive loss, falling to No. 6 California 161-139 this afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Complex. With the setback, UCLA is now 6-2 overall.
Once again, the Bruins were led by freshman Sara Platzer, who earned event titles in the 50 Free (23.17) and the 100 Free (50.41). Platzer's time in the 50 free established a new Spieker Aquatics Complex record, topping the old record of 23.25 set by Sandy Nelson of the USA National Team in 1987. Other individual event winners for UCLA were senior Beth Goodwin in the 200 Fly (2:00.36) and sophomore Erin Zehntner in the 500 Free (4:59.98).
UCLA sophomore Heidi Prosser continued her sensational diving as she placed first in both the one (252.60) and three-meter (284.48) events.
Cal was led by freshman Natalie Coughlin, who won three individual events and established three Spieker Aquatics Complex records. Coughlin won the 200 free (1:46.93), 200 Back (1:57.02) and the 100 fly (52.68).
The Bruins will have one week off and will conclude the regular season against cross-town rival USC on February 10.
