
Men's Volleyball Defeats Long Beach State, 3-2, and Advances to the MPSF Championship

The UCLA men's volleyball team advanced to the MPSF Championship match with a 3-2 victory over Long Beach State Thursday at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, UT,
The Bruins (22-7) won 27-30, 30-25, 30-24, 23-30 15-7 before 813 fans in two hours and 15 minutes.
Long Beach State fell to 18-7.
The Bruins hit just .276 on the evening, but held the 49ers, the nation's No.2 ranked hitting team, to an attack percentage of .193, including a ratio of -.048 in Game 5. UCLA also controlled the net by out-blocking the Beach, 18.5-16.5.
Junior Matt Komer keyed the victory for the Bruins, coming off the bench and pounding 22 kills (.514) to tie his season high. In Gam e 2, Komer slammed 11 kills in 12 attempts (.917). Senior All-American Adam Naeve added 12 kills (.611) and sophomore Scott Morrow tallied 12 total blocks.
In Game 5, the Bruins broke a 3-3 tie to score seven of the next eight points and take a commanding 10-4 lead. The Beach committed four hitting errors and UCLA sophomore Cameron Mount served four straight points.
Long Beach State All-American Dave McKienzie led all players with 26 kills, but was held to a hitting percentage of .217, well below his season average of .350.
UCLA advances to the league championship match against the winner of the Hawaii-BYU semifinal. The MPSF Championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MST), Sat., Apr. 28.
