Bruins Win First Round MPSF Match Against Warriors

The UCLA's men's volleyball team defeated the Canadian National Team Friday, 140-130, in the John Wooden Center.

Sophomore Allan Vince led the Bruins with 17 kills (.387) and three block assists, followed by junior Chris Pena, who added 12 kills (.611), six total blocks and one ace. Freshman Nick Scheftic also added 12 kills (.476).

The Bruins hit .273 for the match and held Canada to a percentage of .116. UCLA won the battle at the net, 14.5 blocks to 13.0.

Canada overcame a 15-point deficit in the second quarter and led 70-67 entering the third period. Coach Al Scates inserted his starters after halftime and they forged a 105-101 lead after the third period. Sophomores Jonathan Acosta and Paul Johnson combined for 13 kills off the bench after intermission.

Gilbert Remillard led Canada with 14 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Brian Paal and Tom Elser each added 10 kills.

The Bruins will travel to New York next week to conclude their Fall schedule in the Concordia Challenge, Nov. 15-16.
