Bruins Win Kilgour Cup By Sweeping USC

The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated USC 3-0 in the 25th Annual Kilgour Cup Saturday night.

The Bruins (11-1, 6-0) defeated the Trojans (4-9, 1-6), 30-23, 30-17, 30-23 in 77 minutes before 1,260 fans at Pauley Pavilion. The victory was the Bruins' ninth straight and fourth consecutive over USC,

The Bruins have won the Kilgour Cup 20 times in 25 years.

Senior Matt Komer led the Bruins with 14 kills (.476) and three total blocks, and sophomore Chris Pena and junio Cameron Mount each added nine kills. Mount added five digs and four total blocks, while hitting .500.

As a team, the Bruins dominated the net by out-blocking their archrivals, 10.5-5.0 and limiting them to a hitting percentage of .110. The Bruins hit .513, a season-high, and recorded 20 digs.

Senior Brook Billings led the Trojans with 16 kills and Beau Rawi added 12, but each was held under .300. Three other starters hit for negative percentages.

The loss was USC's sixth straight.

UCLA travels to the Bay Area for its next two matches, visiting Pacific (2/15) and Stanford (2/16).
