Top-ranked UCLA defeated No.6 UC Santa Barbara Friday to retain its hold on second place in the MPSF standings.
The Bruins (16-3, 11-2) won 30-26, 29-31, 30-23, 30-23 in two hours and seven minutes in front of 567 at Robertson Gym.
Senior Matt Komer led UCLA with 17 kills (.469) and junior Scott Morrow added 14 kills (.565) and seven total blocks. The Bruins hit .331 and limited the Gauchos, the league's top hitting team, to a percentage of .245.
Andy Rivera led UCSB with 16 kills.
Next week the Bruins will host three matches, beginning with Lewis on Wed., Mar. 6.
