Eugene, Ore. - The UCLA women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the State Farm Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament with a 46-42 victory over California at MacArthur Court on the University of Oregon campus.

The Bruins, seeded eighth in the tournament, made a spirited comeback in the second half against the ninth-seeded Bears. Trailing 30-26, UCLA went on a 13-0 run to take the lead, 39-30 with seven minutes to play. Freshman center Krystle Johnson scored the first three points in that run on a basket and free throw to spark the Bruins.

Cal came back to cut the lead to one at 43-42 with 34 seconds to play, but Whitney Jones hit two free throws with 28 ticks on the clock and one of two free throws with seven seconds remaining to seal the victory. UCLA continued its hot shooting from the foul line, making 14-18 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Gennifer Arranaga led all players with 17 points off the bench and is averaging 17.3 points in her last three games. Between her points, steals and assists, Arranaga accounted for more than half of UCLA's offense with her points, steals and assists. Jones led the Bruins with seven rebounds. The Bruin defense held Cal to just 27% shooting from the field.

UCLA will next face top-seeded and second-ranked Stanford in the second round of the conference tournament on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 6:00 pm.
