UCLA sophomore John Merrick tied for 23rd place at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, hosted by Ohio State at its Scarlet Course in Columbus, OH.

Merrick, UCLA's lone qualifier, posted a final round score of 72 to finish eight shots behind the winner. His 72-hole score of 284 was even par.

Georgia Tech's Troy Matteson won the individual title with an eight-under par total of 276. He posted a final round score of 67, five-under par. Adam Rubinson of TCU finished second at 277 and Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan was third at 278.

Minnesota surprised the field by firing a six-under par team score of 278 in the final round to win the team championship with a 72-hole score of 1,134, two-under par. Georgia Tech, the third round leader, posted a final round score of one-over par 285 and placed second at 1,138, two-over par.
