
UCLA Loses in Five Games to UC Irvine

The third-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team lost 3-2 to second-ranked UC Irvine in Pauley Pavilion Friday night.
The Bruins lost, 30-26, 27-30, 21-30, 30-27, 16-14 in two hours and 20 mintes in front of 1,013 fans.
The loss dropped the Bruins' overall record to 3-2, 0-1 in league play. UC Irvine improved to 6-0 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
Sophomore outside hitters Jonathan Acosta and Gray Garrett each led the Bruins with 17 kills. Juniors J.T. Wenger and Matt Shubin added 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Acosta and Shubin each recorded a team-high of five total blocks.
Jimmy Pelzel led the Anteaters with 26 kills and Spencer Bemus added 15. Kyle Weichert spiked 10 kills and led UCI with seven block assists.
Next match for the Bruins will be Thurs., Jan. 23 against Long Beach State at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
