Box Score

Austin, Texas (AP) - Hot three-point shooting in the first half kept UCLA close at halftime, but No. 2 Texas pulled away in the second half, winning 89-58 on Tuesday night.

Texas freshman Tiffany Jackson had 19 points and 12 rebounds in her home debut, and Jamie Carey scored 16 points as the Longhorns (3-0) ran their home winning streak to 21 games. Texas shot 57 percent from the floor.

Lisa Willis scored 17 points for the Bruins (1-1) -- making five of UCLA's nine 3-pointers.

A Final Four team last season, Texas led 37-35 at halftime despite its stellar shooting because UCLA hit six 3-pointers to keep pace.

The Longhorns held a 35-24 lead midway through the first half, but sloppy play on offense and poor rebounding prevented them from pulling away. On the few times Texas missed shots, the Longhorns grabbed only one offensive rebound.

Gennifer Arranaga's 3-pointer sparked a 12-2 UCLA run that closed the first half.

Texas blew it open with a 19-7 burst to start the second. Carey and Heather Schreiber hit a pair of 3-pointers, and Jackson scored five points as the Longhorns took control.

Carey and Jackson then combined for 10 straight points over a four-minute span that put Texas up 71-49 with 7:40 to play. Outrebounded by the smaller but quicker Bruins 22-16 in the first half, Texas eventually took control of the boards 24-12 in the second.

The Bruins also went cold from long range in the second half, hitting just three 3-pointers.
