Freshman Kate Richardson (Coquitlam, BC/Port Moody Secondary) of the UCLA Women's Gymnastics Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
Richardson led UCLA to a team total of 198.175 in a home victory over Arkansas. The Bruins' score is the second-highest in the nation this season (topped only by UCLA's 198.275 in January) and the fourth-highest score in school history. Richardson recorded a career-high and UCLA freshman record 39.75 in the all-around for her second-straight all-around victory and her third-straight 39.5+ meet.
The 2000 Canadian Olympian earned her first career perfect 10 on the floor exercise and her second 10 overall in her short Bruin career. Her 10.0 helped the Bruins achieve a season-best 49.725 on floor. Richardson also won the beam with a 9.975, placed second on vault and tied for third on bars.
This is Richardson's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and her career.
