LA JOLLA, CA - The seventh-ranked Bruins (4-3) jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held on to defeat fifth-ranked UC San Diego (7-4), 5-3, in front of 1,804 fans in La Jolla. Five different Bruins scored in the contest.

Center Ted Peck scored the lone goal of the first period before UCLA posted three more in the second frame. Junior Josh Hewko, redshirt freshman Grant Zider and true freshman Tyler Kandel each found the back of the net in the second quarter. With Chris Finegold scoring the Tritons only first half goal, the Bruins led 4-1 at the half.

Junior Brett Ormsby lifted UCLA to a 5-1 advantage in the third period with his 15th goal of the season. Despite a goal from UCSD in each of the next two frames, UCLA held on for the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Joe Axelrad recorded his second double-digit save performance of the season with 11 while allowing only three goals.

The Bruins will open their home schedule on Sunday when they host UC Irvine in a nonconference match. Game time is set for noon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
