Bruins Sweep Anteaters in Final Exhibition

The UCLA men's volleyball team finished its exhibition season unbeaten with a three-game sweep of visiting UC Irvine on Saturday.

The Bruins won 30-28, 30-25, 30-19 in 83 minutes in front of 459 fans at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA finished the exhibition season with a 5-0 record after winning the Husky Dino Cup in October.

Senior quick hitter Allan Vince led the Bruins with 11 kills (.556) and four block assists, followed by 10 kills (.333) from senior outside hitter Jonathan Acosta. Both players recorded 13 points. Senior Paul Johnson, sophomore Steve Klosterman and junior Damien Scott each contributed eight kills as the Bruins hit. 414 overall. Redshirt freshman Julio "Gaby" Acevedo started at setter and recorded 42 assists. Freshman libero Tony Ker led both teams with 14 digs.

The Bruins out-blocked the Anteaters 10.0-4.0 and out-served them five aces to three.

Matt Webber, David Smith and Steffin Rangel each recorded eight kills for UC Irvine.

The Bruins will begin the regular season with an exhibition match on Dec. 29 against British Columbia at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
