Krista Colburn Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week
January 31, 2005 | Bruin Athletics
Jan. 31, 2005
Colburn had an amazing start to her Bruin career last week with a 7-for-7 performance to bat 1.000 in a doubleheader against UCSB on Jan. 30. For the day, Colburn had seven hits in as many trips to the plate, three runs scored, four RBI, one stolen base and a 1.000 on-base percentage to go with a 1.714 slugging percentage.
Colburn's first career at-bat came with two outs and a runner on base in the top of the second inning, and she singled to right field, advancing to second base on an outfield error. In the fourth inning, she again singled, this time to right center field, before hitting her first career home run in the top of the sixth inning, a shot to left field that hit the UCSB batting cages well beyond the left field fence.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Colburn delivered with a lead-off single in the top of the second inning and came around to score on a two-run triple by Andrea Duran. In the third, Colburn had an RBI single of her own, going down the left field line to score Jodie Legapsi for UCLA's sixth run of the game. She stepped in again with a single in the fifth inning and hit UCLA's fourth triple of the day in the seventh inning, scoring two runners.
This is Colburn's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
