Kim Vandenberg Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week

UCLA Swim & Dive Third After Day Two of Pac-10 Championships

The No. 11 UCLA women's swimming and dive team is in third place (353.5 points) after day two of the Pac-10 Championships in Federal Way, WA. Junior Kim Vandenberg posted the highest individual placement of the meet so far with a fourth-place finish in the 50 Free (22.93), while sophomore Katie Arnold placed fifth in a time of 22.98.

In the 500 Freestyle, sophomore Katie Nelson (4:47.94) and freshman Shannon Hackett (4:49.41), swimming in the console final, placed 10th and 12th respectively, while sophomore Jane Imagane placed 23rd in the bonus final in a time of 4:59.83.

Senior Kim Scarborough, swimming in the 200 IM console, finished 11th in a time of 2:01.69. Freshman Chiemi Yamamoto (2:03.89) and junior Shellene Catalano (2:04.10) placed 19th and 20th respectively.

The 200 Free Relay team of Arnold, Vandenberg, Amy Thurman, and Kendall Butler placed sixth in a time of 1:33.40.

In one-meter diving action, junior Amanda Blong placed fourth with a score of 282.55, while junior Paige Thompson finished eighth with 260.65 points. Senior Janine Strack placed 10th with 218.75 points.

Competition continues tomorrow with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and three-meter diving in the morning, and finals in the evening.
