
Bruins Dispatch Gauchos in Three Games

Top-ranked UCLA swept No.5 UC Santa Barbara in three games Saturday night in Pauley Pavilion in the final regular season home match for the Bruin seniors.
The Bruins won 30-28, 30-27, 30-20 in 87 minutes in front of 1,441 fans, their largest crowd of the season. The victory raised UCLA's overall record to 24-3, 17-3 in league play. The Gauchos, who lost their second match this week, fell to 14-12, 12-8.
Junior David Russell, playing in place of Allan Vince, led the Bruins with 15 kills (.684) and a block assist. Senior Brennan Prahler, recovered from a sprained ankle, came off the bench and slammed 14 kills (.565), added one block assist and recorded 14.5 points. Senior Paul Johnson recorded 11 kills (.550), four block assists and three aces for 16.0 points. Freshman Libero Tony Ker added six digs and setter Dennis Gonzalez recorded 49 set assists.
The Bruins hit .441 for the match, including .750 in Game 3, out-blocked the Gauchos 5.0-4.5 and served four aces to UCSB's two.
UCSB's Evan Patak, the national kill leader, was held in check with 17 kills (.294). Senior Michael Kennedy added 12 kills (.556) and Bryan Berman recorded 11 kills (.500).
The Bruins finish the regular season on the road next week, traveling to Long Beach State on Apr. 14 and to UC San Diego on Apr. 15.
