Bruin Swimmers Down Pacific 147-109 in First Dual Meet Match-up Between the Two Schools

The No. 7 UCLA swim team downed the Pacific Tigers 147-109 in dual meet action on Saturday. It marked the first time the two schools have met for the two-team competition, as well as the return of former Assistant Coach Greg Meehan, who now is the Head Coach for Pacific.
On the day, the Bruins recorded 22 season best marks and several NCAA qualifying times. UCLA had 11 individual event winners as senior Kim Vandenberg led the way with three victories (200 Fly, 2:00.19, B/100 Free, 51.09/100 Fly, 55.27, B), while junior Katie Nelson (200 Free, 1:49.61, B/500 Free, 4:52.22, B) posted two wins. Also recording victories in the meet were - junior Jane Imagane (1000 Free, 10:01.00), junior Katie Arnold (100 Back, 56.92), senior Eileen Seissen (100 Breast, 1:04.32), junior Amy Thurman (50 Free, 23.64), freshman Madeleine Stanton (200 Back, 2:04.55) and sophomore Chiemi Yamamoto (200 Breast, 2:19.81).
The 200 Medley Relay team of Arnold, Seissen, Thurman and freshman Anna Poteete won in a time of 1:44.15, while the 800 Free Relay team of Vandenberg, Poteete, senior Kendall Butler and Nelson just missed the facility record (7:21.64), swimming 7:24.02. Although they did not break the pool record, the foursome did achieve the B standard for the NCAA Championships in March.
The swim team will have two weeks off before they return to Pac-10 dual meet action. On Friday, Jan. 27, the Bruins will host Stanford at 2:00 pm and California on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 12:00 pm.
