The No. 4 Cal Bears proved to be too much for the No. 14 Bruins as they defeated UCLA 165-96 in Pac-10 swim and dive action. Cal improved to 10-0 (5-0 Pac-10), while UCLA fell to 6-3 (2-3 Pac-10).

Although it was a loss for the Bruins, the divers came up big with a sweep on one-meter as sophomore Marisa Samaniego led the way with 258.07 points. Seniors Sara Clark (257.17) and Amanda Blong (256.80) finished second and third, respectively. Clark won the three-meter contest with a score of 296.33, while Blong was second with 264.90 points.

Junior Nicolette Teo led the Bruins in the pool with a win in the 200 Breaststroke, swimming 2:16.51.

Other Bruins finishing in the top-three were - Katie Nelson, 2nd in the 1000 Free (9:59.62) and 3rd in the 500 Free (4:54.98); Jane Imagane, 2nd in the 500 Free (4:54.73) and 3rd in the 1000 Free (10:05.18); Silke Nowotzin, third in the 200 Free (1:51.67); Katie Arnold, 2nd in the 100 Back (55.42); Jeana Fuccillo, third in the 100 Breast (1:04.57) and 400 IM (4:25.94); Shannon Hackett, 2nd in the 200 Fly (2:03.44); Isabel Miesner, third in the 200 Fly (2:04.47); Anna Poteete, 2nd in the 50 Free (23.49) and 100 Free (51.00); Amy Thurman, 3rd in the 50 Free (23.66); Chiemi Yamamoto, 2nd in the 400 IM (4:22.26).
