PASADENA, Calif. - Freshman Jacob Murphy scored three goals to lead the No. 4 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 20 Brown, 16-4, Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. Eleven Bruins scored at least one goal, and senior goalkeeper Matt Kellogg recorded six stops.

UCLA (12-2) pulled away after the first quarter, as both teams exchanged goals through the first four minutes. Senior Matthew Jacobs, who finished with two goals, recorded his first goal with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter to break a 2-2 tie and hand the Bruins the lead for good.

The Bruins led 5-2 after the first quarter and assumed a 10-3 advantage at halftime. Brown (9-6) received two goals from junior Mike Gartner in the first half.

Murphy scored his first two goals of the afternoon shortly after the midway point. With UCLA leading 11-3, Murphy recorded his first goal with 4:47 remaining in the third quarter and added his second goal just 67 seconds later.

Murphy's third goal came after Brown goalkeeper Kent Holland blocked Murphy's initial shot - the Bruin from Corona Del Mar, Calif., grabbed the rebound and spun a shot past Holland, giving UCLA a 13-3 cushion.

Holland finished the match with nine stops in the cage. UCLA sophomore Alex Lawrence recorded one save in the fourth quarter.

The Bruins outshot the visiting Bears, 31-17.

UCLA returns to action in the SoCal Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13. The Bruins will face Pacific at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday at Corona Del Mar High School. UCLA will face Pepperdine or Bucknell later that afternoon.
