Swimmers Have Strong Opening Day at Nike Cup in Long Beach

The 200 free relay team of Kelly Colligan, Anna Poteete, Ashley Anlauf and Katherine Wong started the day off with a win for the Bruins swimming 1:34.13.
In the 500 free, freshman Emily Bibb was second, swimming an NCAA consideration time of 4:53.52. Freshmen Dani Milligan was fourth (4:55.39), Lauren Hall was sixth (4:57.74) and Sam Vanden Berge was seventh (4:59.88). Senior Chiemi Yamamoto was eighth (5:01.84) to round out UCLA finishers in the top-10.
Hall led the Bruins in the 200 IM as she finished third overall in a time of 2:04.93. Junior Kristen Fischer was fifth, swimming 2:06.03 and Yamamoto was sixth in a time of 2:06.35.
Poteete was the top finisher in the 50 free with her fourth-place showing as she swam an NCAA consideration time of 23.19. Colligan was sixth in a time of 23.96.
The 400 medley relay team of Madeleine Stanton, Brittany Beauchan, Kirsten Byers and Anna Poteete wrapped up the night with a third-place swim in a time of 3:52.18.
Competition continues on Friday at the Nike Cup.
