One-Meter Final Results

Sophomore Marisa Samaniego finished in the runner-up spot for the second consecutive day at the Pac-10 Diving Championships, this time on one-meter as the Bruins finished in second, third, and fourth place in the finals.

UCLA stands in first-place after two days of competition with 233 points. Stanford is in second with 197 points, followed by Arizona (102), USC (75), Cal (68) and Arizona State (57).

Samaniego missed first-place by just over six points, finishing second to Cassidy Krug of Stanford (293.45) with a score of 287.40.

"I'm really pleased with Marisa's performance today," said dive coach Tom Stebbins. She had a chance to win when Cassidy (Krug) missed a dive, but Marisa faultered on her dive and couldn't knock her out of first-place. This was a big weekend for her, finishing second on both days to one of the truly elite divers in the country. To see her battle and compete the way she did this weekend is great.

Seniors Sara Clark and Amanda Blong finished third and fourth, respectively, as Clark scored a huge personal best of 283.30 and Blong picked up 276.30.

"This team is really riding high and I couldn't be happier for Sara and Amanda to finish so well at Pac-10's."

In the prelims, sophomores Tess Schofield (232.10), Shannon Pirozzi (214.95) and Brittany Hill (208.90) finished 14th, 17th and 19th, respectively.

"We are going to enjoy this through today, and then go turn our focus to the tower event on Sunday and see what Tess (Schofield) and Brittany (Hill) can do. We were really close to a championship today, but hopefully we can get one tomorrow."

The platform prelim will begin at 12:30 pm with the final schedule to begin at 3:30 pm.
