Jan. 28, 2008

The second-ranked UCLA men's golf team endured a difficult day in the desert and was in eighth place at the PING/Arizona Invitational before darkness forced the suspension of the second round until Tuesday.

The Bruins were nine-over par for the tournament in the second round before play was called at Arizona National in Tucson. Tennessee was the tournament leader at 15-under par in the second round. The Volunteers posted a first round score of 272 (-12). Arizona was second at eight-under par, followed by UNLV at -4.

Individually for the Bruins, senior Kevin Chappell was the only bright spot, taking a two-stroke lead into the clubhouse at seven-under par. He fired a four-under par 67 in the first round. Freshman Philip Francis was tied for 24th at two-over par after carding an even par 71 in the first round. Craig Leslie was tied for 48th place at seven-over par, although he was one-under through 14 holes in the second round. Lucas Lee was tied for 55th place at eight-over and Jason Kang was tied for 75th at 12-over. Erik Flores, playing as an individual, was tied for 71st at 10-over par.

The final round will commence on Tuesday following the completion of round two.
