PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 1 UCLA women's water polo team defeated No. 7 San Jose State, 12-7, Sunday morning at the Stanford Invitational. The victory pits the Bruins (9-0) against No. 2 USC (4-1) in the invitational's championship match Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Against San Jose State (6-3), the Bruins were led offensively by senior Jillian Kraus and junior Katie Rulon, who each tallied three goals. Tanya Gandy added two goals for UCLA.

The Bruins led 5-0 after the first quarter and owned 7-1 advantage at halftime. The Spartans cut into UCLA's cushion in the second half, outscoring the Bruins 3-2 in the third quarter. Both teams traded three goals in the final frame.

With her three goals Sunday morning, Rulon has now scored two goals or more in each of UCLA's nine matches this season. Rulon currently leads the squad with 24 goals.

San Jose State's Bridget McKee and Adrianna Vogt led the Spartans with two goals apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen made five stops in the cage, and San Jose State's Kendra Adama totaled five saves in goal.
