The second-ranked UCLA men's golf team was tied for fourth place following the first round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational Feb. 17 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Sawgrass Country Club was the winner on Sunday, yielding no rounds below par to any teams. The Bruins posted a team score of 295 (+7) and were five shots behind first place Alabama at 290 (+2). Tennessee was second at 291 (+3), followed by Pepperdine in third at 294 (+6). The Bruins were tied with third-ranked Charlotte.

UCLA's Jason Kang fired a two-under par 70 in a round that featured two eagles and a pair of bogeys. He was tied for second place, one shot behind Georgia State's Joel Sykora who posted a 69 (-3).

UCLA's remaining players were all above par. Senior Craig Leslie carded a score of 74 (+2), aided by an eagle three at the par 5 11th hole, and was tied for 24th. Freshman Philip Francis was tied for 32nd place after signing for a 75 (+3). Senior Kevin Chappell, who had been averaging below 70.0 this season, posted a season-high score of 76 (+4) and was tied for 43rd. Junior Lucas Lee was tied for 49th after carding a score of 77 (+5).
