Senior Tess Schofield won the 2009 NCAA Zone E tower competition on Saturday to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships March 20-21 in College Station, TX. Schofield won the event with a score of 476.90, over eight points better then her nearest competitor.
Today's win was Schofield's second NCAA Zone E crown on tower after having won back in 2007. She joins senior Marisa Samaniego (three-meter), senior Madeleine Stanton (100/200 back) and sophomore Lauren Hall (400 IM/200 breast) as UCLA's representatives at the NCAA Championships.
Senior Brittany Hill placed fourth with a score of 446.65 and was just 10.5 points shy of a spot at Nationals. Sophomore Laura Winn finished eighth with a total score of 405.65.
Hill and Schofield were tied for third after the prelim rounds with an identical score of 223.45, while Winn was sixth with 211.85.
