Swimmers Wrap Up Arena Invite With More Fast Times

The UCLA swimmers wrapped up competition at the Arena Invitational on Saturday and again posted fast times in the pool as 23 season-bests and four NCAA "B" cut marks were achieved on the final day of competition.

The distance swimmers started off the Bruins on a high note as senior Sam Vanden Berge finished fifth overall with an NCAA "B" cut time of 16:36.69 and freshman Lauren Baker was ninth with a time of 16:49.59.

In the 200 back, 8 of 11 swimmers competing in the event posted season-best times. Freshman Anna Senko led the way in the consol final as she finished 10th with a season-best and NCAA "B" time of 1:58.77. In the bonus final, frosh Jesse Bergman was 20th with a season-best time of 2:01.82 and sophomores Andrea Reigel (21st, 2:02.18) and Laurence Delisle (22nd, 2:02.20) also swam season-best marks.

The 100 free also saw nearly every swimmer post season-best marks as frosh Cynthia Fascella led the way, placing 17th in the bonus final with a time of 50.43.

Senior Brittany Beauchan was the top finisher for UCLA in the 100 breast as she placed fifth in the championship final (2:13.60). Junior Kelsey Louden was 17th (2:16.27) and senior Lauren Hall was 22nd (2:20.65) in the bonus final.

Junior Yasi Jahanshahi was fourth in the championship final of the 200 fly, swimming 1:58.73. In the consol final, sophomore Karoline Sanderud was 12th (2:01.01, season-best) and sophomore Stephanie Christofferson placed 13th (2:01.94, season-best). Junior Bianca Casciari was 19th (2:02.49) and Baker was 23rd (2:04.95) in the bonus final.

The 400 free relay team of Kathryn Murphy, Fascella, Emily Andelson and Bergman finished fifth with a season-best and NCAA "B" cut time of 3:22.92 to end the three-day meet.

The Bruin swimmers and divers will next head to Austin, TX for the Texas Invitational Dec. 2-4.
