The seventh-ranked UCLA men's golf team took the first round lead at the 6th Annual Gifford Collegiate Championship at the CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif.

The Bruins posted a team score of 12-over par 367 and led runner-up Stanford (368, +13) by a shot. Washington was third at 370 (+15), followed by Northwestern at 371 (+16) and fifth-place Oregon at 375 (+20).

Tournament scoring is a six-count-five team format over 54 holes of stroke play.

Freshman Patrick Cantlay posted a bogey-free round and made four birdies en route to the best score of the day -- a 67 (-4). He holds a one-stroke lead over Augusta State's Henrik Norlander.

Sophomore Mario Clemens and senior Connor Driscoll were tied for 13th place at three-over par 74. Tied for 33rd were junior Gregor Main and sophomore Pontus Widegren at 76 (+5). Sophomore Pedro Figueiredo was tied for 74th after posting an 11-over par score of 82.

Three players on the UCLA roster are playing as individuals. Junior Alex Shi Yup Kim was tied for fifth place at 72 (+1), freshman Anton Arboleda was tied for 13th at 74 (+3) and sophomore Bobby Lange was tied for 33rd at 76 (+5).
