
UCLA Drops Vanguard, 79-43, In Exhibition Matchup

Los Angeles, Calif. - Preseason No. 15/16 UCLA defeated Vanguard University, 79-43, in an exhibition matchup on Monday evening in Pauley Pavilion.
Vanguard jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the game and went ahead 11-5 at the 17:20 mark after a Veronica Beavor three-pointer, but the Bruins outscored the Lions 36-2 the rest of the half to take a 41-13 lead into halftime. UCLA held Vanguard scoreless for the final 13:54 of the half.
UCLA continued its scoring run into the second half, scoring the first nine points of the half to increase UCLA's lead to 50-13. Vanguard scored its first basket in over 17 minutes with a Beavor three-pointer at 16:45.
The Bruin defense harassed Vanguard into 25.8% shooting from the field and forced 29 turnovers. UCLA outrebounded Vanguard, 65-35.
Bruin juniors Jasmine Dixon and Rebekah Gardner each had double-doubles, with Dixon recording 23 points/16 rebounds and Gardner tallying 19 points/13 rebounds. Darxia Morris added 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
UCLA travels to San Diego State on Friday evening for its season opener. The game will be televised live at 7 pm on the mtn.
