In the final preseason match before the 2011 season, the UCLA men's volleyball team defeated McMaster University from Ontario, Canada 4-1 Thursday night.
The Bruins won the first four sets 25-22, 25-15, 31-29, 25-19, but lost the fifth one 15-13 in front of a crowd of 104 at Pauley Pavilion.
Juniors Jack Polales and Nick Vogel led the Bruins as Polales pounded 15 kills, served 1 ace and recorded 6 block assists, good for 18 points. Vogel chimed in with 11 kills and 8 block assists for a total of 15 points.
Freshmen Robart Page and Gonzalo Quiroga were also key contributors for the Bruins, as they contributed 9.5 and 6.5 points respectively. Page recorded 8 kills and 3 block assists on the night while Quiroga added 6 kills and 5 digs.
UCLA hit .353 with 70 kills overall while the Marauders hit only .157 with 50 kills. Josh Lichty led McMaster with 9 points and 8 kills.
UCLA opens its 2011 campaign on Friday, January 7th, at the UCSB Invitational against UC San Diego.
