The sixth-ranked UCLA men's golf team was in third place after two rounds at the 38th Annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational Friday.

The Bruins posted an outstanding second round score of 277 (-7) to climb the leader board into third place. Their 36-hole total of 558 (-10) trailed USC (556, -12) and Arizona (554, -14). Host Arizona State was fourth at 567 (-1) and Oregon was fifth at 569 (+1).

Individually for the Bruins freshmen Pedro Figueiredo and Mario Clemens were tied for ninth at 139 (-3). Figueiredo opened with a 68 (-3) and finished the day with an even par 71. Clemens posted a first round score of 70 (-1), followed by a 69 (-2) in the second round. Freshman Pontus Widegren was tied for 11th at 140 (-2) following rounds of 71-69 and sophomore Gregor Main was tied for 18th at 141 (-1) after rounds of 73-68. Sophomore Alex Shi Yup Kim posted rounds of 72-72 and was tied for 34th at two-over par 144.

USC's Steve Lim held the first round lead at nine-under par 133 following rounds of 68-65.

Final round action continues Saturday at 7 a.m. MT.
