
Bruins Fall in Three to Trojans

Seventh-ranked UCLA fell in three games at USC Saturday night and career victory No. 1,200 eluded UCLA Coach Al Scates for the second time this week.
USC won 30-26, 30-21, 30-23 in 91 minutes in front of 1,000 fans at the Galen Center. The Bruins fell to 14-11 overall, 9-9 in conference play. USC improved to 13-9, 10-8.
In a match in which UCLA never held the lead, the visitors committed 22 hitting errors, hit less than 20%, managed just 4.0 total blocks and two aces.
By contrast USC hit .423, totaled 6.5 blocks and out-hit their counterparts by eight kills. The combination of junior Murphy Troy and sophomore Tony Ciarelli recorded 31 kills, two aces and four total blocks.
UCLA sophomore Jack Polales led the Bruins with 13 kills (.344), followed by eight (.545) from Thomas Amberg, who also added three total blocks.
UCLA continues its road swing to Long Beach State on Fri., Apr. 9 for a 7 p.m. conference match at The Pyramid.
