
Bruins Improve to 3-1 with Win over Penn State

The 8th ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions 3-1 on the opening day of the Outrigger Hotels Invitational in Honolulu, HI.
The Bruins are now 3-1 on the year and improved their all-time record against Penn State to 23-6. The game scores were 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.
Quick hitter Thomas Amberg led the Bruins in his first match back from injury with 12 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces on the night. Junior Jeremy Casebeer continued his stellar play from the Santa Barbara Invitational, chipping in with 8 kills, 4 blocks and a team-high 6 digs in the victory.
Freshman Gonzalo Quiroga was a key contributor as well, as he pounded 11 kills in the match. In addition, setter Alex Scattareggia played another huge role for the Bruins, recording 36 assists while also serving three aces in the match.
Overall, the Bruins hit .352 as a team while holding Penn State to just .252. Joe Sunder led the Nittany Lions with 24 kills in a losing effort.
UCLA's next match will be tomorrow, January 14th, against the Ball State Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. PT/4:00 HT.
