
Bruins Lose Again to Santa Barbara

The Bruins blew an early 1-0 lead and fell once again to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 3-1 at Robertson Gym in Santa Barbara, CA.
The Bruins dropped both games of a two-game set to the Gauchos and are now 7-7 on the year and 2-6 in MPSF play. This is also UCLA's fifth straight loss and with the loss have fallen into last place in the MPSF conference. Game scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.
UCLA jumped out to an early by winning the first set 25-23. But Santa Barbara came right back, winning the first eight points in the second set en route to a 25-18 set win. The Gauchos didn't look back from there and went on to win the 3rd and 4th sets to complete the season sweep of the Bruins.
Junior Weston Dunlap led the Bruins with 12 kills and 3 total blocks in the loss. Junior Kyle Caldwell added eight kills while freshman Gonzalo Quiroga chimed in with seven. Junior Thomas Amberg led the team with four total blocks and senior Tom Hastings recorded nine digs on the night.
Overall, the Bruins hit just .234 as a team while the Gauchos hit .257. Jeff Menzel led the Gauchos again with 18 kills.
UCLA will be back on the court on Thursday, February 17th, to play the first match of a two-game match against the Hawaii Warriors at Pauley Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. PT.
