
Bruins Drop Match to Stanford 3-1

The 8th ranked UCLA men's volleyball team fought hard but could not overcome an early 1-0 deficit as they fell to the Stanford Cardinal 3-1.
The Bruins dropped to 8-9 on the year and are now 3-8 in MPSF play. This is also UCLA's fourth straight loss in Palo Alto dating back to 2007. Game scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-17.
In the first set, UCLA found themselves down 24-22 and facing two set points to the Cardinal. But two kills from junior Thomas Amberg knotted the set up at 24-24. However, Stanford would go on to take the next two points behind an Eric Mochalski block and a Brad Lawson ace to win the set 26-24. The Bruins took the second set 25-21, but Stanford ultimately prevailed by winning the final two sets 25-22 and 25-17 respectively.
Freshman Gonzalo Quiroga led the Bruins with 16 kills and 4 aces on the night. Junior setter Alex Scattareggia did his best to will the Bruins to victory as well as he recorded a career high 51 assists in the loss. Juniors Weston Dunlap and Thomas Amberg chipped in with 11 kills each while freshman Robart Page pounded a career best 14 kills. Tom Hastings led the team with 7 digs.
Overall, the Bruins hit .403 as a team while Stanford hit .458. Spencer McLachlin led the Cardinal with 19 kills.
UCLA will finish up the bay area trip on Saturday, February 26th, against the Pacific Tigers at the Spanos Center in Stockton, CA. Gametime is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT and fans at home can follow the match live on gametracker.
