
#3 UCLA Wins First Two Matches at UCSB/asics Invitational

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The third-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team won both of its matches at the UCSB/asics Invitational today, downing the Cal State Northridge Matadors 3-1 in the morning match and sweeping defending champion Ohio State 3-0 in the nightcap.
In the morning match against Northridge, set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-19 (3-1). Senior Weston Dunlap led the Bruins with 14 kills while senior Jack Polales followed that up with 13 kills of his own. Seniors Thomas Amberg and Jeremy Casebeer had nine kills apiece while Amberg recorded four total blocks. Finally, sophomore transfer Evan Mottram led the squad with 14 digs.
Against Ohio State, the Bruins won 3-0 with set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-19. The Bruins got stellar play all-around, with Polales leading the way with nine kills and sophomore Gonzalo Quiroga contributing eight. Amberg and Casebeer had seven kills each and Dunlap was right behind them with six. Dunlap also led the team with four total blocks and Mottram was once again the digs leader with nine.
The Bruins will now face UC Irvine in the championship match of tournament on Sat., Jan. 7 at 6:30 pm.
