
Bruins Tied for Second after Day One of Amer Ani Invitational

Kohala Coast, Hawai'i - The fourth-ranked UCLA men's golf team started off their spring season in strong fashion, finishing the first round of the Amer Ani Invitational tied for second place.
The Bruins recorded a first round score of 275 (-13), which leaves them five shots back of leaders Texas who posted a first round score of 270 (-18). Washington finished the day tied with the Bruins at 275 (-13) while USC is in fourth place with a score of 276 (-12). Georgia Tech rounded out the top five with a first round score of 278 (-10).
Individually, junior Pontus Widegren finished the first round tied for the lead with a score of 66 (-6) after recording seven birdies and one bogey for his round. Widegren was particularly strong down the stretch, posting a four-under par on the back nine to vault himself up the leaderboard. Sophomore Anton Arboleda shot a 69 (-3) for his round to finish the day tied for 15th while reigning National Player of the Year Patrick Cantlay posted a 70 (-2) to finish round one tied for 26th. Junior Pedro Figueiredo and senior Alex Shi Yup Kim also shot a first round 70 (-2) and like Cantlay are tied for 26th place.
Patrick Grimes of Stanford and Cheng-Tsung Pan are tied with Widegren atop the leaderboard with scores of 66 (-6).
