Bruins Hold 10 Shot Lead After First Round of NCAA Regionals

Bowling Green, Ky. - The third ranked UCLA men's golf team ended the first round of the NCAA Bowling Green Regional with a ten shot lead over the rest of the competition.
The Bruins recorded an overall score of 284 (-4), which as mentioned above gave them a 10 shot lead over second place teams Chattanooga and Colorado State, who posted a score of 294 (+6). Clemson, Texas A&M, Memphis and North Texas are all tied for fourth after round one with a total of 295 (+7). The top five finishers from the regional will move on to the NCAA Championship at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
Individually, junior Pedro Figueiredo finished the first round tied with Jonathan Fly of Memphis for first place with a score of 68 (-4). Figueiredo had a stellar back nine, shooting five-under par after recording four birdies and one eagle. Sophomore Patrick Cantlay was right behind the leaders after posting a 69 (-3) for his round, giving him sole possession of third place heading into round two. Sophomore Anton Arboleda is currently tied for 11th place after posting a first round 73 (+1) while senior Alex Shi Yup Kim is tied for 18th place after shooting 74 (+2) for his round. Finally, junior Pontus Widegren finished the day tied for 51st after recording a first round 78 (+6).
