Fifth-ranked UCLA hosts No. 13 UC San Diego in a 7 p.m. Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, Sat., Feb. 2 in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins (7-5, 3-3) will be trying to shake off Tuesday's tough five-set loss to second-ranked UC Irvine. UC San Diego (4-6, 2-4) plays at UC Santa Barbara tonight as part of a challenging three-match week. The Tritons defeated visiting Princeton 3-1 on Wednesday.
The recent series between the two schools has been a challenge for the Bruins, who until 2008, had never lost to UCSD. In the last 13 matches between the two schools, the Bruins have won seven, with UCSD winning twice in Westwood. UCSD's only victory in Pauley Pavilion came in 2010 (3-0) just before the arena closed for renovation.
UCLA defeated UCSD 3-2 in early January in the second round of the Asics Invitational. In that match, four UCLA players recorded double-digit kills: juniors Gonzalo Quiroga (17, .333), Dane Worley (15, .382), Jonathan Bridgeman (11) and Spencer Rowe (10, .500). Carl Eberts (14, .464) and Vaun Lennon (12, .310) led the Tritons. The Tritons erased an 0-2 deficit in sets before falling in the fifth.
