The fourth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team recorded its fifth consecutive victory Friday night beating UC San Diego in La Jolla.
The victory snapped the Bruins' five-match losing streak at UCSD's RIMAC arena and cemented their position in fourth place in the MPSF race -- one match ahead of Pepperdine.
The Bruins won 25-20-, 25-18, 25-20 in 80 minutes before 587 spectators. The visitors raised their overall record to 16-9 and 12-7; UCSD dropped to 7-17, 4-15.
Aside from a few UCSD spurts early in each set, the Bruins had no trouble with the Tritons. They continued their torrid hitting in the month of March, torching the Tritons with an attack percentage of .551 -- highest in the MPSF this season. UCSD hit just .181 and was out-blocked 5-1.
Individually, junior Gonzalo Quiroga recorded 13 kills (.667) and a solo block for 14 points, followed by Robart Page's 10 kills (.444), one ace and a block assist for 11.5 points. Evan Mottram had six digs, tied for the match high with Page.
Carl Eberts and Cheyne Hays led the Tritons with six kills each.
The Bruins will complete their road trip Saturday night at UC Irvine in a 7 p.m. MPSF showdown at the Bren Center. Listen live here beginning at 7 p.m.
