No. 1 UCLA Completes Undefeated Road Record with 16-4 Win at UC Davis

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 1 UCLA men's water polo team (24-2, 7-0 MPSF) stepped out of conference on Sunday afternoon to post a 16-4 win at No. 14 UC Davis (13-16, 2-2 WWPA). The Bruins also improved to 16-0 away from campus, including an 8-0 mark on the road in 2014.

Senior Cristiano Mirarchi led the Bruins with a game-high three goals against the Aggies.

The Bruins jumped out to a 4-0 start, beginning with three straight goals from the front court by sophomore Ryder Roberts (7:37), senior Paul Reynolds (4:43) and senior Daniel Lenhart (2:57). Sophomore Chancellor Ramirez put the Bruins up 4-0 (1:07) with a power play goal. Jacob Ley got the Aggies on the board with a goal at two meters (0:45) to end the scoring in the first with UCLA leading 4-1.

UCLA dominated the second period, outscoring UC Davis 4-0 to build an 8-1 lead by halftime. Mirarchi got things going in the second with a penalty goal (6:12), then redshirt freshman Matt Farmer scored back-to-back goals at two meters (5:31) and on a counter attack (3:12) to put the Bruins up 7-1. Mirarchi added his second goal of the quarter on a counter attack (0:19) to end the scoring in the first half.

Reynolds scored his second of the game on a counter attack to open thes scoring in the third  (7:00) to put the Bruins up 9-1. Mirarchi then completed his hat trick with a goal from five meters after an ordinary foul (5:19) to make it 10-1. Redshirt freshman Jack Grover then gave UCLA an 11-1 lead with a power play goal (4:19). After UC Davis scored back-to-back goals to trim the lead to 11-3, senior Christopher Meinhold ended the scoring in the third with a penalty score (2:07) for the 12-3 advantage.

The Bruins scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter, staring with Lenhart's second of the game from the front court (6:46). Then Grover added his second of the contest from the front court (5:20) to make it 14-3. Redshirt freshman Maxwell Irving extended the lead to 15-3 with a penalty goal with 4:19 remaining. Sophomore Alec Zwaneveld's exclusion goal (3:03) gave UCLA its largest lead of the game at 16-3. Alex Bagdasarian's power play goal with 0:23 remaining provided the 16-4 final.

Sophomore Garrett Danner started in goal for the Bruins and played the first half, registering four saves, including one on a penalty shot, while surrendering one goal. Senior Stephen White played the second half in goal for UCLA and made five stops while giving up three goals. Spencer Credd played the entire first half in the cage for UC Davis and allowed eight goals without making a save. Jake Becker played the third period and made three stops while allowing four goals. Nico Chapman played the fourth period and was credited with two stops while surrendering four more goals.

UCLA was 3-for-9 on power plays while UC Davis was a combined 2-for-11, including 0-for-1 on 6-on-4. The Aggies were 0-for-1 on penalty shots while UCLA converted on all three of its attempts.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday (Nov. 15) for "Senior Night" when they host Long Beach State in the regular season finale at 7:00 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center.
