Golfers Looking Up after Round One in Hawaii

UCLA sophomore Lorens Chan fired an opening round 68 (-4) at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings Course Thursday.

The Bruins managed a team score of 283 (-5) and were staring 13 rungs up the ladder as top-ranked Oklahoma State was in first place at 17-under par 271.

Individually for UCLA, Chan was tied for 14th place, followed by Jake Knapp in a tie for 32nd after posting a score of 70 (-2). Tied for 63rd at even par 72 was junior Jay Hwang, followed by sophomore Jonathan Garrick in a tie for 76th at 73 (+1). Matt Pinizzotto was tied for 100th after a first round score of 75 (+3).

Oregon's Thomas Lim was the first round leader following a round of eight-under par 64.
