
Bruins Tied for 5th after First Round in the Desert

The Bruins posted a team score of 284 (-4) and were tied with San Diego State, Texas Tech and LSU. Stirling University of Scotland held the opening round lead with a score of 277 (-11), followed by second-place Arizona State at 9-under par 279. Oklahoma State was third at 280 (-8) followed by fourth-place USC at 283 (-5).
Individually for the Bruins, junior Jake Knapp toured the 7,204-yard Nicklaus Championship Course in 3-under par 69 and was tied for eighth place. Knapp also led the team with six birdies in his opening round. Senior Preston Valder was tied for 14th place at 2-under par 70, followed by junior Lorens Chan, who was tied for 30th at even par 72. Seniors Manav Shah and Matt Pinizzotto were tied for 38th place after posting scores of 73 (+1).
Arizona State's Jon Rahm was the first round leader after firing a 66 (-6).
