
Golfers 14th after Opening Round at Southern Highlands

The Bruins posted a score of 294 (+6) and trailed first round front-runner Texas (276, -18) by 18 shots. Oklahoma State was second at 280 (-8) followed by Oklahoma at 281 (-7). In fourth place was top-ranked Illinois at 283 (-5) and Arizona State was fifth at 286 (-2). Overall, six of the 15 teams beat par. The Bruins were one shot behind Georgia and TCU, which were tied for 12th.
UCLA senior Matt Pinizzotto led the Bruins with an even par score of 72, tied for 27th. Pnizzotto, who recently won the TMC Spring Invitational, featured three birdies and three bogeys. Junior Jake Knapp made six birdies on the day, but endured a bogey and three double-bogeys for a 1-over par 73. He was tied for 38th. Junior Jonathan Garrick posted a score of 74 (+2) and was tied for 50th, and teammate Lorens Chan was tied for 60th following a round of 75 (+3). Senior Manav Shah had the drop score of 77 (+5) and was tied for 72nd.
UNLV's Redford Bobbitt and Oklahoma's Charlie Saxon were tied for first place after firing scores of 65 (-7) in the opening round.
