Bruins Beat Trojans 9-7 to Advance To MPSF Tournament Final
April 25, 2015 | Women's Water Polo
Junior All-American Rachel Fattal scored a season-high of six goals Saturday to lead No. 2 ranked UCLA past No 3 USC, 9-7, in the MPSF semifinals at Arizona State's Mona Plummer Aquatics Center.
The Bruins (23-2) will advance to the MPSF championship Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against Cal, an 8-7 upset winner vs. Stanford.
In the first half USC took leads of 3-1 and 4-2 before the Bruins rallied with a 4-goal run to take a 6-4 third quarter lead that they would not relinquish. During the run, Fattal scored twice and Alys Williams and Emily Donohoe scored once each. USC (22-4) tied the score briefly in the fourth quarter at 7-7, but Fattal scored twice more to ice the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Sami Hill made a season-high 14 saves.
The victory gave UCLA its third against USC this season and fifth straight against its cross-town rival. More importantly, it secured a strong case for the Bruins in any at-large bid should it arise.
